Our Approach
Our work at The Adjacent Possible leverages effective long-standing and innovative methods, builds on our commitment to relationships, and draws from deep substantive knowledge.
-
Methods
We use systematic, yet flexible approaches that are based on science and practice to understand programs and services, identify challenges, and solve problems. Our team is highly skilled and experienced in traditional research methods, implementation science and practice, formative evaluation and continuous improvement, iterative testing and improvement, and human-centered design. We use a mix of methods to approach any task or project, always centering a focus on evidence use in practice.
-
Relationships
People are at the center of any change. The people who are responsible for change—to make it happen or be the change—need to be involved in designing the change. We believe in listening first and then collaborating with clients, partners, program participants, or members of the community to create the change. We co-create with a wide range of individuals and types of organizations, build trust through connection, authenticity, and competency, and always bring respect, laughter, and passion to our work.
-
Substantive Knowledge
Our team brings decades of expertise in policies and practices across a range of public programs and topic areas. Our work builds on extensive knowledge of the research as well as practical knowledge of the ways things work. For decades, our team has studied and worked with TANF programs, SNAP, employment and training programs, and early childhood care and education programs, among others, at the federal, state, and local levels. We are trained in and adept at organizational change and improvement in public and nonprofit settings, implementation science, project management, and evidence use.
